Stephen Mold responds to announcement on police funding today

Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold has commented on today’s announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, of funding to boost police numbers.

“The Chancellor’s announcement is great news for Northamptonshire Police.  Although we are waiting for the details, we expect to see around 200 extra officers in the next three years. Put this together with the almost 100 new officers we were already recruiting and that could give us 300 more police officers, which would make Northamptonshire Police the largest Force it has ever been.

“The Chief Constable and I are meeting with the Home Office soon to press our case for fairer funding in the longer term. And I am working closely with the Chief Constable to ensure that our new resources increase visibility and strengthen local accountability and response to the issues that local people tell me matter most to them.

“We have already begun the enormous process of recruiting all these new officer and are looking for people who fit the bill to join Northamptonshire Police.”  Anyone who is interested can find more information at www.northants.police.uk
