Police Misconduct Hearings – Independent Panel Member

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire is seeking to recruit Independent Panel Members for Police Misconduct Hearings. These hearings preside over serious misconduct cases in what is an important aspect of the disciplinary rules that govern the police in England and Wales.

Police and Crime Commissioners have the challenging role of ensuring that the people of Northamptonshire are served by an efficient and effective police force. Transparent, fair and robust arrangements for police officer discipline are an important way of inspiring public confidence in the high professional standards and ethical values of our police. An important principle is for misconduct processes to build trust and confidence in policing both for our communities, but also for the staff working within policing. A commitment to fairness and transparency, with a particular emphasis on understanding the issues that are important to our diverse communities is critical in this role.

Applications are sought from people with an interest and experience in work related to HR, complaints or dispute resolution, misconduct proceedings or law.

Members are paid a daily allowance which is set nationally and are entitled to claim for travel expenses incurred on Independent Member business. In addition to the hearings there is also a level of preparatory work to be undertaken e.g. reading relevant papers, reports and background information. Attendance at training events is a mandatory condition of appointment for these posts. Successful applicants will need to be over 18 years of age at the time of appointment and undertake Police Vetting. Applications should include a supporting statement that demonstrates that the applicant meets the essential criteria as set out in the job description.

The deadline for applications is 14th August 2022 and completed applications should be emailed to commissioner@northantspfcc.gov.uk
